Christmas Gifts

UPDATED!!
Well as promised here is a list of what I made as Christmas gifts, unfortunately I forgot to
take pictures of some of them so I'll have to post them when I can get pictures taken.

First I made a quilt for my mom and stepdad and sent it to Florida,
this isn't the best picture but it gives you the basic idea.  My son-in-law the photographer
has the best pictures so I  need to get them from him took this picture.

Then I made covers for the neighbor, she bought a couple of those circle chairs that are
so popular right now

Will insert picture when I get it!!

Then I made casserole carriers for my stepmom and 2 sister-in-laws

I still can't believe I forgot to take the pictures before I gave them out, but I'm
notorious for doing this!!  I need to get better at taking pictures.

Well until next time,

FNSI Results

Well here is what I got finished, I'm happy with my results!!

I did a birth announcement blanket for my cousin's granddaughter and finished
my new purse and made a wallet.  The wallet took me the longest, I didn't
have a pattern but was going from several photos that I printed off the internet and
constructed one of my own.  When I have time I'm going to re-do it and correct
some of the things I'm not quite happy with, but all in all I'm happy with
what I got accomplished.

Until next time,

Unfortunately don't know if I'll have another chance to do another one this year.

Here is what I ended up with

Zippered coin/change purses in Breast Cancer Fabric

Checkbook covers in Breast Cancer fabric

and another tote bag with Breast Cancer fabric (this pic is from the original bag I
made the week before but the second was the same fabrics only in a different arrangement).

What I've Been Working On

Well here's what I've been working on lately,

Hand applique!

I was given a quilt top bom from Joann's from 1999,
and thought I would give it a whirl!  I'm very pleased with
how it is turning out, my only other attempt at hand
applique is from when I took the beginning quilting
classes from my favorite quilt store!  Those classes were
about 3 years ago and I wasn't sure I would remember what
to do, but I have to say it's been fun.  One thing I did ask
when I decided to start this was what their preferred
thread is and was told it is Mettler cotton thread with
the silk finish.  This stuff is great for hand applique, when it
knots up, I can unknot it very easily.  This is the 5th block I've
worked on, I put the 6th one back for later since it has 16 small
hearts to applique, I'll save it for last and hopefully when
I'm much better at what I'm doing.

Well until next time, (hopefully not so long before I
get to post again)

The Results Are In!!!

A couple weeks ago I blogged about a survey that was being taken to collect data on craft bloggers.  Well the results are in and they are pretty inpressive.  As of the end of July there were 483 bloggers responding.  Go check it out here to see for yourself.  She is leaving the survey open through the end of 2011 and maybe longer depending on the activity of the survey.

Another Dress

Well I've done it again!! I made another dress, from the same pattern as the last one, but different sleeves.  This one was for my niece that is 2 for her birthday.

She is such a little girly girl and I knew this would be perfect for her.  Can't wait until I get to see her in it.

Goodwill find!!!

Stopped at Goodwill recently looking for clothes but ended up in the back of the store where the household items are and found several large bags of material, yarn, and misc crafting supplies.  Noticed a couple things in each bag that I know covered the price of the whole bag so I bought all 3 (less than $15 total), when I got them home and started inspecting them I found enough pre-cut 5" square of cotton material to make at least 2 queen size quilt tops, not necessarily my colors but ones I can put together and give to the Red Cross quilt group to finish and give out.  Then in the same bag were several diamond cut blocks that I'm going to try making into a Lone Star quilt top, don't really remember right off hand what colors the material is but worth using to see if I want to spend the money to make one of my own.  In another bag found a pre-quilted panel for a baby quilt will probably put a border on it and save it for a new baby that I know is coming soon.  The bag with the craft supplies had a little of everything in it, includeing a plastic frame and loops for the pot holders I used to make as a child, not to mention purse hardware, sewing patterns, and so much more that I can't remember it all.

As I finish projects with all these new treasure's I'll post pictures!!!

Until next time,
Jodi

Red & White Block Swap

I'm so excited, I received my package with all the wonderful red and white squares of fabric today!!! Karen at Sew Many Ways started this swap June 6, 2011, and we had to send 125 5" squares of red and white fabric but in turn we get 125 5" squares back of a variety of fabric.  Still all red and white and I'm so excited I got mine in the mail today!!!!
Now for the big question????
What to make with it,
a red and white quilt top with the blocks as is???
quilt top with 1/2 square triangles???
cut them up into 4th's and make a new bag???
We'll have to see!!!

New Bible Case

Well since the zipper was acting up on my old case I figured it was time to make a new one.  I decided to also embroider my name on it to make it more personal.  It has a pocket on the front and one inside.

Have gotten some sewing done this weekend, working on a birthday gift for my niece that is turning 2 next weekend.  Also doing some miscellaneous sewing seeing how things look.  I know not very exciting but had gotten some material and wanted to see what I could do with it.

Nothing New

Well this has been a slow week crafting wise.  I've been so busy with other business I haven't gotten to do any sewing, hopefully that will change soon!  Have a couple projects in mind that I'd like to get working on and hopefully life around here will allow it.

Hoo Am I???

Found a new blog, I know I'm blog hopping again :-)!!!  Hoping to get my blog noticed more, so here goes!!

1. Do you decorate for the 4th of July?

No, I'm not a big decorator, my daughter is the one that normally does this type of thing and she just recently got married and moved out, such a sad time in my life!!

2. Do you buy fireworks for the 4th of July?

No, our state limits what you are allowed to set off so we normally just watch what the town puts together.

3.  How do you celebrate the 4th of July?

We normally spend it with family and friends, doing family reunions or just random picnics.

4.  Do you have a family member serving our country?

Not in active duty right now, I have however had many family members serving in the past.  I do have a very good friend who's son is on his way home from Afgahanistan as I type, he is to be in NC on Friday evening.  I do have a cousin that is doing the civilian thing right now in Afgahanistan, he is retired Marines.

5. Do you dress in red, white, or blue for the 4th of July?

Yes, I do normally try to dress in 1 or all 3 of those colors for the holiday weekend.

Well until next time,

Bridal Shower Gifts

Please remember I am NOT the photographer of the family, unfortunately he wasn't available when I was taking these photos.  My cousins daughter is getting married next month and as a shower gift I made towels for the kitchen, I told her since I didn't know which of the 2 would be doing the cooking this covered them both!
Also did these pillowcases, this is a first for me and I think I'll do them again, I am very please with how they turned out.
I'll have to spend some time looking for cute saying to put on them, I thought about putting "I have a headache" and "I have an aspirin" on them but decided to be safe and just use their last name.

Sewing classes

Well, I've commited, I'm going to offer a class to teach the younger generation to sew.  Lord help me, I have never taught sewing before but I really feel the need to give back.  I would like to inspire the young ones to learn to sew with some direction and not have to learn by themselves like I did.

I'm going to work with the local quilt shop, A Touch of Thread Quilting Gallery where Martha and her family have adopted me into the family. They have been so encouraging to me and I really appreciate the opportunity they are giving me to do this.

Keep me in your prayers as I take on this challenge.

I know everyone is probably getting tired of all the wedding stuff, and I think I'm finally done now.

This is the ringbearer's pillow that I cross stitched, it's a pattern I got from Creative Poppy wasn't too bad to make and put together.  I changed the colors to match the wedding.

Wedding Items

Well here are a couple of the items I've been working on for our daughters wedding this coming weekend (06/04).  This first one is a bag for the bride to carry during the dollar dance.

This second one is her garter to keep, the ribbon actually has their names and wedding date on it.  She purchased this ribbon to put on other things and I happened to remember she had it and wanted to put it on the garters.
I also have 2 of 10 cakes baked for the wedding cake.  We are having 3 tiers with 2 side cakes since we have approximately 150 + guests coming to the reception.  I've finished altering the 4 bridesmaid dresses, and have most of the alterations finished on the matron of honor's dress since she is 8 months pregnant I've had to insert material on the sides under the arms and actually am very pleased with how it is turning out.

Keep praying for good weather on saturday since we are having an outside wedding.

I'll post more pictures as I get things completed.

Until next time,
Jodi

Special Order

A friend of mine's son is in the Marine's and stationed in Afgahanistan right now and wanted a purse with the Marine's emblem on it.  She purchased the black material on line, it was the only US Marine material she could find at the time.  I really didn't like the black so I purchased the blue to go with it and I'm pretty satisified with how it turned out.

Well until next time!

New Quilt Top

Well since I don't have a design wall I used this area of my living room, it includes my daughters senior picture!  This is where it stands for now, I'm still trying to come up with a way to finish the edges, I'm thinking maybe something to incorporate the points, sort of like a scalloped border.  Any suggestions?

It is a stack 'n whack pattern, it was actually very easy!!  Maybe when I get time I'll try to write up the instructions.

WIP

This is my WIP I've been working on, I took a class called "Stack N Whack", remember all these blocks came from the same bolt of fabric.

These blocks are mostly dark, but they are not all dark, they vary from light to dark. I'm amazed at the different results for each block. When I finally finish getting it together I'll post again with the final product.

New Craft Room

Well here is what we have been working on...

converting the sons bedroom into my sewing/craft room

If you cannot tell the walls are purple, yes my favorite

color is purple, it inspires me so much.

The floor is vinyl and looks like ceramic tiles.

The bookshelves were custom made for me by my step-dad,

they hold so much, they are filling up fast!

This is the opposite side of the room, I am still getting everything

put away and organized. When that is finished I'll post more pictures.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

Plum Creek Quilt crib size, a friend of mine gave me this pattern to try and it was a lot easier than I thought!
